William T. King’s Tailor Shop Sign

One of the most interesting items in our collection is the bullet-riddled business sign of William T. King, Tailor. King’s shop is believed to have been located in the southwest corner of the Square of Gettysburg at the time of the battle in 1863. The sign was logged into the accession book of the Adams County Historical Society in 1943 as a donation of Mrs. William Archibald McClean. Undoubtedly, is a reference to Mary Ellen King McClean, who was the daughter of William T. King, and just seven months old at the time of the battle.
