Nancie Gudmestad
Founder, Shriver House Museum
Nancie Gudmestad is the founder of the Shriver House Museum, dedicated to telling the civilian story of Gettysburg through the experiences of George and Hettie Shriver and their two children. After moving to Gettysburg in 1984 to open the town’s first bed and breakfast, The Old Appleford Inn, Nancie and her husband, Del, went on to build and operate Mulligan MacDuffer Adventure Golf for nearly three decades before selling the property to the Civil War Trust for battlefield restoration. Inspired by her work during the filming of the movie Gettysburg, she recognized the need to interpret the impact of the battle on the town’s 2,400 residents. She and Del restored the Shriver House – then an abandoned home – to its 1860 appearance and opened it as a museum, which has since won numerous awards and been featured internationally in film and television.
